Hearing Aid Fitting & Programming

The team at Vienna Hearing Center is ready and willing to answer any questions about the fitting appointment. New hearing aids require professional programming and fitting, so it is important for wearers to understand the details. Luckily, we are experts in helping our patients find the technology that suits their specific needs – as well as programming and fitting details that ensure a positive listening experience.

Before The Appointment

Preparing ahead of time for your appointment will enable you to focus on priority items when you are with our team. Bringing along a friend or loved one has a similar effect. This is a recommended method since a familiar voice should be the first thing you hear when getting new hearing aids. When a loved one speaks, you will instantly recognize the difference before and after the hearing aids were inserted.
If possible, write down questions that you want to ask your audiologist on the day of the appointment. Trying to memorize multiple things before the fitting will lead to forgetfulness. After the initial questions are written, think about the trajectory of your personal goals once your hearing is improved.

Hearing Aid Fitting

Remember to relax during the fitting. This appointment is all about finalizing your prescription hearing aids for first time use. Your audiologist will be right there, so do not be afraid to ask clarifying questions. As the procedure moves forward, your audiologist will talk about features, maintenance and future appointments. Patients should speak up during the fitting if there are any concerns about the new device. This appointment opens the floor for hearing related discussion, and not speaking will lessen the impact of your treatment.

Live Speech Mapping

Sound accuracy is the key to a good hearing treatment. The original prescription is built based on the results from your hearing tests. This profile is unique as it tells audiologists how to improve your weaknesses while enhancing your strengths. Live speech mapping is the final touch, and serves as an updated verification tool to optimize your new hearing aids. As modern hearing aids grew in features, live speech mapping was introduced as a replacement for real ear measurements. The benefits allow audiologists to see what the patient is hearing in real time. With a little feedback from the patient, micro adjustments can be made so that the device is ready for all daywear.

Future Appointments

A speech reception threshold (SRT) test is used to confirm the results of a pure-tone test. This test determines the lowest level of sound the patient can clearly identify words or speech.

Additional Tests:

After your initial hearing aid fitting, one important follow-up session will be scheduled. During this appointment, your audiologist will fine-tune the hearing aids based on your feedback and make necessary adjustments to optimize their performance. This follow-up visit ensures that any initial challenges are addressed, and it plays a significant role in providing you with the best possible listening experience. With these fine-tuned adjustments, you can be confident that your hearing aids are tailored to meet your specific needs and contribute to your overall auditory experience.
